Blend up a smoothie – an easy and delicious way to boost your daily fruit and vegetable intake in 5 minutes.

Simply:

  • Pour a liquid base like milk, plain or fruit yoghurt, fruit juice, coconut milk, coconut water or almond milk into a blender.
  • Top with your favourite fruit and/or vegetables.
  • Add a little honey, maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla essence or sweetener of your choice (if needed)
  • Drop in a few ice cubes or some crushed ice and
  • Blend until smooth.

Take a can of  tuna in springwater,  drain and mix  with al dente macaroni, a can of cream of mushroom soup and frozen peas, top with grated cheese and bake to perfection.

Serve with salad, garlic bread etc.

I make this far too often. It’s a weeknight legend.

Today’s cocktail takes us back to the Tiki culture of the 1940s.

Both Victor Bergeron (the founder of Trader Vic’s restaurants) and Don Beach, also known as “Don the Beachcomber” lay claim to having invented the Mai Tai.  While we don’t know who mixed the first Mai Tai, we do know the drink  originated in one or the other of their Tiki bars during the 1940s and has remained popular ever since.
