With only 5 mins needed to prep the ingredients, you can have fresh, healthy, homemade cream of celery soup on the table in 30 minutes. 

Prep: 5 min | Cook: 25 min | Serves: 4


  • 60 ml butter
  • 1 small brown onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups finely chopped celery
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 40 ml flour
  • 375 ml vegetable stock (can substitute chicken stock if preferred)
  • 250 ml milk
  • 125 ml pouring cream
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
  • To garnish:
    • Chopped dill, parsley or spring onions, snipped chives, or herbs of your choice


  1. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Add onions and celery, and gently fry for 5 minutes or until softened.
  3. Stir through the flour and cook for another minute.
  4. Add the garlic paste, stock, milk and cream and stir until smooth.
  5. Increase the heat until simmering.
  6. Reduce heat to medium and simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes.
  7. Add salt and freshly ground pepper to taste.
