Quick and tasty, toasted cheese and ham sandwiches are a lite version of the classic grilled cheese and ham sandwich.  They’re toasted in the oven so there’s a little less fat and fewer calories.  Serve with a bowl of hot soup, or a fresh salad.

Toasted Cheese and Ham Sandwich

Prep: 10mins | Cook: 10 mins | Serves 2


2 slices low fat tasty cheese
50 g shaved or thinly sliced leg ham off the bone
4 slices white or grain bread
1 tspn butter or substitute
Dijon or English mustard to taste


Preheat oven to 450°F.
Cover a baking sheet with baking paper.
Lightly butter one side of each slice of bread.
Place two slices of bread on baking sheet, buttered side down.
Spread with mustard to taste.
Place a slice of tasty cheese on each slice of bread.
Top with leg ham.
Place other piece of bread on top, butter side up .
Bake for approximately 5 minutes until bread begins to brown.
Flip sandwiches over.
Cook additional 3-4 minutes until done.
