Smarter cooking for busy people

Meet the Cook

Welcome to Not Quite Vegetarian (NQV)!

I’m the cook behind the blog.

I write from my home in Queensland, Australia, and have a global audience, with thousands of readers from 50 countries. Thank you all for your visits – the power of the internet is amazing!

As my readers know, unlike many food bloggers, I don’t spend hours cooking from scratch in my valuable spare time, or making complicated dishes with long lists of ingredients.

Why not?

Because I’m too busy to spend hours in the kitchen.

Instead, I cook smarter.

I produce delicious, high-quality, healthy food in less time, with far less mess and cleanup  than from-scratch food requires.

And that is what NQV is all about.

Cooking smarter to get you out of the kitchen faster!

What do I mean by ‘cooking smarter’?

If you take a look at the tag cloud on this page, you’ll get an idea of how I ‘cook smarter’.

Less than 20 minutes prep.  Easy recipes.  Slow cooking.  Make ahead.  Low-prep. Shortcuts. Comfort food. 5 or less ingredients. Flexible.

Every recipe on this blog falls into one or more of those categories – and they’re all high quality, healthy and delicious recipes.

You will find:

  • Recipes that use quality off-the-shelf curry pastes, meal bases, sauce and gravy bases, pesto, pasta sauce and stock; frozen and tinned produce, to enhance your reputation as an amazing cook AND save you valuable time.
  • Slow cooker recipes with 10 mins or less prep time, that you set and forget for up to 10 hours.
  • Easy recipes.  When I tag a recipe “easy”, you can rest assured it is, very, VERY easy!
  • Make ahead and freezable recipes – invest a few hours on the weekend to make a week’s worth of dinners.  You’ll be glad you spent the time, when you get home tired and dinner’s ready in a few simple steps.
  • Comfort food recipes with shortcuts woven in to save you the work of doing everything yourself.
  • Recipes with 5 or less ingredients, that only take a few minutes to prepare.
  • And flexible recipes that can be changed to suit individual tastes when everyone wants something different.

Why Not Quite Vegetarian?

In 2014, I decided to reduce my meat intake without cutting it out completely, as I knew I wouldn’t be able to commit to a strictly vegetarian diet.

I started this blog soon after, so I named it Not Quite Vegetarian.

I’m still a not-quite-vegetarian, so many of my recipes can easily be adapted from seafood/meat-based to vegetarian, and vice versa.

Here are two of my favourites:

What’s next?

I’m working on two projects which I’ll publish here as soon as they’re blog-worthy;  a cooking smarter pantry, and a collection of meal plans, to help readers save time, effort and money.  For busy people, meal planning really is the gift that keeps on giving!

Thank you for dropping in.

I hope you enjoy your visit to my world of smarter cooking!
